Can I get some house cleaning tips please?

Posted By: admin  //  Category: house cleaning

I would appreciate any and all tips that I can get for house cleaning…*BUT* with one little twist. I am in a wheelchair. Can anybody help now?

First of all I would like to mention that you can get an aide in to help a few times a week or more. Ask your doctor. I have had help in the past due to my disabilities. I suggest you get a reacher too. It is a long bar that you can pick things up with if they are out of reach.

For cleaning the tub, get a new broom and use that. Put your cleaning stuff in the tub, wet the broom and scrub away.

For making the bed, Get sheets with snaps at the end so this way they do not come undone at the foot. Makes the bed making alot easier. You may want to just pin or sew the corners to do so.

Dishes are a pain so I suggest you get a chair that is high enough to reach the sink if this is feasable. Get a very lightweight vacuum to use.

For dusting get one of those long wand dusters and an extension. I had to buy a window washer with a long extension but luckily it was the same fitting and attached well to the duster.

Get a cart (the kind with two wheels) and put all your cleaning items in there. Makes it a lot handier to have them all together and can take the cleaning cart out when needed.

This site has an article on disabled house cleaning makes it easier for the arthretic too but I think you may find some good ideas on there.

This site has a bunch of resources as well that may help with getting the job done.

I have included a site for people with arthristis as it has a lot of useful things on it that may help you from the reacher to jar opening items and other stuff. I have been searching for ideas on the internet for you but so far have turned up nothing specifically for making your job easier but I know it has to be out there somewhere.

If I find one I will add more to this. I hope some of this will help you. Be sure to do one room at a time as this will be far less overwhelming for your house cleaning.

Feel free to take breaks and do not let the small stuff get to you.

How do I get the smell of dog urine out of my carpet?

Posted By: admin  //  Category: Carpet Stain Removal

I have tried scrubbing the area ( he always pees in my daughters’ toy room) with a bissel carpet shampooer, I’ve used pet odor and stain removal and regular cleaner , but I still cant get the odor out of the room, I’ve also opened the window and tried a fan to air it out, but no luck.

Help Please!!!!!!!!!

Sprinkle some baking soda on the area, let set for a few minutes and then vacuum. If it still smells, then try using your carpet cleaner again. But, if that smells stays, get rid of the rug and train your dog.

Editors Comment: The best product that I have found for cleaning animal urine is the Melaleuca product “Sol-U-Mel’.  If you hear of anyone who sells the Melaleuca range then get some.  It is fantastic for a multitude of purposes!

How to clean the tiles in the toilet?

Posted By: admin  //  Category: house cleaning, how to clean, tile cleaner

The tiles in my toilet are really dirty and I just can’t clean them off.  There’s dirt between the spaces between the tiles so if you know a way to clean off those ugly dirt please answer this question and I’ll be very thankful!

As a flooring consultant, I can’t recommend using anything abrasive on your grout. but, a Mr. Clean magic eraser might be your new best friend. They’re very inexpensive and you can get them just about anywhere cleaning product are sold. Please make sure that the cleaner you are using does not need to be rinsed off your floor.

When in doubt, clean ceramic tile and grout with a mild solution of vinegar and warm water. About 1/4 cup of vinegar to one gallon of water.

Happy Cleaning!

What is a good tile cleaner for the bathroom?

Posted By: admin  //  Category: tile cleaner

What is a good way to clean tiles in the bathroom?

A cleaner that doesn’t leave streaks afterwards. Natural mix would be good.

Try vinegar in a spray bottle. You can use some baking soda to scrub at the stains and then squirt it with vinegar (it will fizz up). I personally like to use bleach and water in the bathroom. My favorite store bought cleaner is Fantastik. It does a good job getting things to shine. You can use it on the tub, sink, toilet, faucet, etc. It’s fairly inexpensive, but homemade is always cheapest.

How do you clean your tiles in your shower?

In between the tiles in my shower are all discoloured and look dirty but I clean them all the time and I have tried loads of products, what am I doing wrong?

I use this and it works wonders!

Use a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. You’ll be able to clean the tiles and it gets the grout clean, too. Keep one in the shower and use it every once in awhile. You’ll be impressed.

Carpet Cleaning Tips for Common Spills During the Holiday Season

Posted By: admin  //  Category: Carpet Stain Removal

Do you ever notice that people seem to be a little friendlier this time of year? The Christmas season brings out the best in everyone, it truly is the season to be jolly! It is a time for family and friends coming together and enjoying good food and good company. The cleanup is a reality of the holiday season that many people forget about after the celebrating is over. Not only do we have a mess to contend with but also many times we have spills and stains on the carpet; gravy, wine, beer, coffee and soda, to mention a few. I have learned that most people treat these spills wrong and cause the stain to set into the carpet, making the job of removing them much more difficult.

This article will provide a guide to cleaning the most common spills that you get after the holiday season. The most important thing to remember is that timing is everything when it comes to a spill, the faster you clean up after a spill the better chance you have of removing the stain completely. There is three important steps you must follow to clean any stain.

The first step is to immediately blot the spill with a dry white cloth, napkin or paper towel, try to remove as much liquid as possible before going on to the next step.

The second step is to clean the spot and in order to do that you should mix a solution of mild dish detergent (no bleach) and warm water. Once you have mixed the solution blot the stain.

The third step is to neutralize the stain with a solution. Each stain has a different mixture and a solution for a few of the most common stains is included. Put the mixture into a spray bottle, mist the spot after cleaning it, and blot with a paper towel to absorb excess liquid. You can also spray with plain water and blot after you are done to rinse the area and make sure there are no chemicals left on the carpet.

For coffee, tea, beer, or white wine, the neutralizing mixture is one third of a cup of white vinegar and two thirds of a cup of water. For cola, soda, or pop stains, the mixture is one tablespoon of household ammonia and half a cup of water. For gravy stains you do not put it into a spray bottle you blot the spot after cleaning with a small amount of dry cleaning solvent (you may substitute isopropyl alcohol), make sure to use very small amounts to avoid any damage to the carpet.

The trickiest spot of all to clean is red wine, it is very important to treat this spill properly or you risk setting it into the carpet. Simply follow step one, then instead of cleaning it with water and dish detergent you mix one teaspoon of neutral dish soap (dawn works great) with a cup of hydrogen peroxide. You can pour the mixture over the spill to pre-soak it. You should actually see the red wine disappear in front of your eyes. If there is still a residue left afterwards rinse it with water, blot, and then pour a mound of salt on, the spot (the salt will draw the moisture and residue out of the carpet) wait until morning and then simply vacuum up the stain.

These tips for stain removal will help you with any of your holiday spills. Just remember to test any of the chemicals you use on an inconspicuous section of carpet, you can do this by putting a small amount on a white cloth and hold it to the carpet for 30 – 60 seconds, if there is no color transfer on to the cloth you should be fine. Please remember as well, that when the instructions say to blot, do not rub at the carpet or you risk damaging the fibres and making the stain go deeper into the fabric. Good Luck with your stain removal and Happy Holidays!
