    Yes, blotting is just pressing down with an absorbent towel or cloth to draw up the stain. It wont push the stain down, it will draw the stain up into the towel.

    Scrubbing will damage and fray the carpet fibers, and make it fuzzy in that spot. It also may just spread the stain around, while blotting wont.
