It takes the odor out and the stain. The only bad thing about using alcohol...it really cleans the carpet good and after you have cleaned the area, it makes the rest of your carpet look dingy. Now the smell (and spots) are removed from the carpet. Everything else, I believe, just masks the odor. The problem with the smell is that your doggy has peed there, and has marked it as a place that is OK to pee.
