Does anyone have a good tip for removal of commercial road grit used when icy. There is some caked on carpet. Inside the door is where it is caked. The staining is dreadful.

Vacuum thoroughly then use OXY CLEAN , vacuum again preferably with a wet and dry vac or shop vac and repeat with another round of OXY CLEAN may take some elbow grease

How do I get Ladybug or Lady Beetle stains out of a light colored carpet?

We recently purchased a home that apparently had a grouping of Ladybugs die under where they kept their bed. Bottom line is there is a nasty stain on the carpet now and rather than rip it up we’d like to give stain removal a shot.

Does anyone out there have any insight in what will get the stain out?

I usually use oxy clean to get rough stains out of my carpet. You just sprinkle approximately 1 cup of oxy clean on the stained spot then let it soak for approximately 15 minutes then vacum over the stained spot.

How would I go to cleaning a spilt ashtray on a carpet? My little brother pushed the ashtray off the desk and it went all over the carpet now theres a big grey stain. I sweeped most of the ash up now its just stuck in the carpet. I tryed OXYGEN stain removal spray and that just made it greyer. Also if I dont get it out right away will it cause mold?

I would recommend using a wet vac and slowly pour hot water (almost to the boiling point) on the spot and vacuum it up at the same time (this will open up the dye ports on the carpet fibre releasing the stain. and remove the residue from the carpet). If the stain is still visible than use a little carpet spotter on it or Dawn dishwashing liquid (2 or 3 drops into one cup of water) and repeat step 1.

The stain may come back in a few days so you may have to do this a few times. Please DO NOT put anything on the carpet that was not made for carpet. At this point if the stain is still there please call a carpet cleaner. Carpet cleaner of 14 years

How do I get the smell of dog urine out of my carpet?

I have tried scrubbing the area ( he always pees in my daughters’ toy room) with a bissel carpet shampooer, I’ve used pet odor and stain removal and regular cleaner , but I still cant get the odor out of the room, I’ve also opened the window and tried a fan to air it out, but no luck.

Sprinkle some baking soda on the area, let set for a few minutes and then vacuum. If it still smells, then try using your carpet cleaner again. But, if that smells stays, get rid of the rug and train your dog.

Editors Comment: The best product that I have found for cleaning animal urine is the Melaleuca product “Sol-U-Mel’. If you hear of anyone who sells the Melaleuca range then get some. It is fantastic for a multitude of purposes!

How do you clean leather sandals/flip flops?

I wear my leather flip flops almost everyday and they’re starting to smell terrible. How do you clean leather sandals without ruining them?

Go to walmart or target in the household cleaning section and find saddle soap, it’s for leather…..great cleaner, should get rid of the smell as well.

How to clean the tiles in the toilet?

The tiles in my toilet are really dirty and I just can’t clean them off. There’s dirt between the spaces between the tiles so if you know a way to clean off those ugly dirt please answer this question and I’ll be very thankful!

As a flooring consultant, I can’t recommend using anything abrasive on your grout. but, a Mr. Clean magic eraser might be your new best friend. They’re very inexpensive and you can get them just about anywhere cleaning product are sold.Please make sure that the cleaner you are using does not need to be rinsed off your floor.

When in doubt, clean ceramic tile and grout with a mild solution of vinegar and warm water. About 1/4 cup of vinegar to one gallon of water.

How do you clean your tiles in your shower?

In between the tiles in my shower are all discoloured and look dirty but I clean them all the time and I have tried loads of products, what am I doing wrong?

I use this and it works wonders!

Use a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. You’ll be able to clean the tiles and it gets the grout clean, too. Keep one in the shower and use it every once in awhile. You’ll be impressed.

Step One

Blot the spill with paper towels or a clean cloth.

Step Two

Combine 1 teaspoon carpet shampoo (or dish soap, like Dawn) and 1 cup hydrogen peroxide in a small bowl. Soak a clean sponge in the mixture, squeeze it halfway dry, then gently blot the stain. Continue until the stain lifts.

Step Three

Sponge the stained area with warm water.

Step Four

Blot dry with a clean cloth or paper towels.

Tips & Warnings

Act immediately. The longer a stain sits, the harder it is to remove. Commerical products like Oxy Clean and Wine Away do an excellent job of removing red wine stains, but try this homemade version if you don’t have either of those on hand.

Does anyone have a good house cleaning schedule?

I am trying to find a good schedule for house cleaning. So I can stay on track and not spend my wheels cleaning the same parts of my house everyday. I have heard people mention a rotating schdule to keep a house totally clean. If you have one I would love to view it and see if it would work for me.

I clean windows and any glass one day, do all dusting of wood and knick-knacks – including ceiling fans another day, Clean the bathrooms another day, sweep floors every day with my Irobot, Mop once a month, change the sheets every two weeks. Clean all blankets 1-2 months.

I don’t consider myself a wonderful housekeeper and I don’t always stick with this schedule. I’ve heard good things about FlyLady from a friend. She uses it and she has to clean a house after 7 kids!

FlyLady is a Yahoo Group, or at least that’s where you could sign up for it.
