Local 3) Word of Mouth -- Offer a great service & people will talk. 4) Mailers -- Send out coupons, specials, etc. Associations may be a good avenue to explore as well. If he says no, go to another store, or, go to a fast food restaurant, ask the manager, if you can distribute the flyers. Do the same in front of movie theaters, unless management stops you. Some cities have a "No Loitering" law, which may include flyer distribution. Have an artist friend design some great looking flyers for your cleaning service. Go to the large supermarkets in your city, say "hi," to the women going in and out of the store. Give them a flyer, and ask if you can offer them a free, "house cleaning," on the day of their choice. Have your appointment book/calendar with you, in case you have a chance to make appointments. You may have to go through this several times.
